We had a Teacher (Beth Hunt). Her husband was the president of the local college. She introduced us to prose and poetry out loud, as did our music teacher Rebecca Gamblin.

In Mrs. Hunt’s class we had to memorize and understand what we memorized by having to explain the meaning of what we recited outloud. I learned and still know the Declaration of Independence, The Preamble to the Constitution, the Gettysburg Address, Kipling’s “IF” because of the outloud method.

In Ms Gamblin’s Class we learned the Star Spangled Banner as well as most songs by note and recited them out loud. We weren’t always perfect but it gave us a frame of mind. This method was in vogue in the first grade thereafter notes made sense and band was easier in latter years.

You made me aware that those pleasant days that were actually a methodology that the teachers themselves experienced in their school days.

Thanks and remember that time is an element in this 3rd dimension but it is not necessarily an impediment…
